Angelis

Illustrator, TypeTool, FontLab

Angelis is a script-like sans-serif typeface designed over the course of approximately 22 weeks. With the help of renowned type designer, Kris Holmes, I was able to take my own hand-written calligraphy, refine and adjust it through multiple sketches, and then bring it into the digital realm to further refine the characters until I had a complete ASCII character set. The result of this process is a one-of-a-kind typeface that is both playful and classy, while still retaining some of the handwritten element.

This typeface has many factors that make it extremely useful and flexible as a design. Part of this flexibility comes from Angelis' ability to be legible at both small and large sizes. In a printed test on a lower quality printer, Angelis was still very legible at sizes as small as 6 to 8 pts. It also contains over 180 unique characters, including common ligatures for the English language, as well as accented characters for various other languages. In addition to this, Angelis also contains old-style numerals and a basic set of mathematical symbols.
